Former Cameroon international Dimitri Alexandre Song Billong has accused the Cameroon football federation (FECAFOOT) of tempering with call ups of players into the national team during Rigobert Song’s two years at the helm of the Indomitable Lions.
Alex Song made the revelation on Monday evening while delivering in his role as a CRTV consultant for the Foot foot foot TV debate.
According to Alex, the absence of some players during the Song era happened out of his control.
“I don’t understand how in a Cameroonian team, we don’t call up a boy like Jean Onana…The coach makes a list, he sends it to the federation but when the list comes back to him, it is no longer the same,” Song said.
Rigobert Song’s time at the helm of the Indomitable Lions was marred by some strange selections and omissions but one could rarely imagine the Samuel Eto’o led FECAFOOT could go as far as influencing players picked for the national team.
Cameroon have since their elimination from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) opted to replace Song.
The search for a new national team coach is on, with hope and expectation that he doesn’t be one that will also succumb to negative external influence whether from FECAFOOT or the Cameroon ministry of Sports.
