Aigle Royal of Menoua recorded an important 2-1 victory against Fovu of Baham on Friday to increase their chances of survival in the 2023/24 MTN Elite championship relegation playoffs.
Goals Nasser Njoya and Junior Tresor Bembong ensured that the El Pacha gets maximum points in coach Dieudonne Nke’s debut as lead trainer of the club.
Aigle Royal entered the contest in desperate need of results due to their winless status going into it while Fovu were looking to add to their one win and two draws so far.
The game got off to the best possible start for the 2008 vice champions as Njoya put the yellow and blacks ahead after just four minutes.
The early goal gave Aigle Royal the initiative to dominate the game though Fovu had their moments but poor finishing was their undoing.
Despite a few heart in mouth moments, Aigle Royal kept the advantage till the break.
An identical start to the second segment saw Fovu concede another early goal, which made it a daunting task to come back into the game given Aigle’s record of holding unto leads this season.
Bembong’s 46th minute goal helped Aigle achieve some comfort but Fovu reduced the deficit through Wilfried Nana with just over half an hour left.
The game produced goal scoring moments in the final half hour but there wasn’t another goal for the hundreds of fans at the Omnisport Annex stadium.
The game finished on the 2-1 score in favor of Aigle Royal who move up to the 7th spot on the log with four points from four games so far.
Aigle Royal will face struggling APEJES of Mfou next while Fovu will grind ashes with PWD of Bamenda who are winless in four playoffs matches this season.
