A packed international window is offering several African women’s national teams the chance to fine-tune their squads ahead of next year’s major competitions — but continental giants Cameroon and Nigeria, both bound for WAFCON 2025, remain notable absentees.
Morocco headline the window
The Atlas Lionesses, coached by Jorge Vilda, will play two home friendlies as part of their systematic build-up.
They face Burkina Faso on 28 November in Marrakech, before hosting African champions South Africa on 2 December in Agadir, a perfect double test against physical and tactical opponents.
Ghana test themselves against England
Another eye-catching fixture sees Ghana take on England, offering the Black Queens rare exposure against world-class European opposition. It is a marker of their intent as they continue reshaping the squad.
Kenya–Algeria renew continental rivalry
In East Africa, Kenya will host Algeria in Nairobi. Both sides are working to reassert themselves, making the tie a crucial barometer of progress for two teams navigating transition phases.
Three-Nation Women’s Tournament in Malawi
One of the most structured programmes of the window will unfold in Lilongwe, where Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe will compete in a three-nation women’s tournament.
Tournament schedule:
28 Nov: Malawi vs Zimbabwe
30 Nov: Malawi vs Zambia
2 Dec: Zambia vs Zimbabwe
The competition offers consistent match rhythm for all three sides, especially Zambia, who are searching for tactical cohesion after a challenging year, while Zimbabwe and Malawi continue building competitive depth.
A vibrant window — with two glaring gaps
Despite the activity across the continent, Cameroon and Nigeria will not engage in any friendly fixtures during this period. Cameroon have no camp scheduled between 24 November and 2 December, while Nigeria’s programme remains empty, raising concerns about preparedness with the WAFCON just weeks away.
Momentum gained, momentum wasted
For active teams, this window provides essential minutes, combinations and tactical clarity. But for others, the lack of competition may have tangible consequences when the continental showdown begins.
