African Athletics Championship: Esseme says poor organization accounted for his non-quualifcation

Cameroon international 100m sprinter, Alobwede Emmanuel Esseme, has deplore the poor programing of games from the CAA,that could not help him secure a final position.

Despite clinching a silver medal,on June 21 at the ongoing African Athletics Championship, in Douala, Cameroon.

Though fairly happy for his results,the the two times African Athletics Championship silver medalist,express his disappointment regarding the day’s poor organization.

Alobwede Emmanuel Esseme said:

“I will say that, it was a very difficult day because of the poor program, which was not well organized, reason why l couldn’t secure a final spot”.

“I returned home and was later called to come back. I was obliged to get ‘Yango’, rapidly for Japoma. Upon arriving at Yassa,there was a huge traffic which saw the necessity of getting a bike. However,l thank God for the silver medal.”, he said.

Born on August 17, 1993, in the South West region of Cameroon, Alobwede has come a long way since his days as Senior Prefect of St Joseph College SASSE.

After earning his Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering from the National Advanced School of Public Works in Yaoundé, Alobwede started his professional career as a Safety Engineer at BUNS. However, it was his prowess in sprinting that glued the attention of many.

In 2018, Alobwede won two medals during the CAA Grand Prix, including a silver medal in the 100m and a gold medal in the 200m. In the same year, he was a finalist at the African Athletics Championship in Asaba, Nigeria, and won the Cameroon Athletics Cup in both the 100m and 200m.

The following year, Alobwede added more gold medals to his collection, winning both the 100m and 200m races at the University Games in Dschang and Yaoundé. In 2020, he represented Cameroon at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, in the men’s 200-meter event.

In 2022, Alobwede continued his winning streak by bagging a gold medal, at the Islamic Solidarity Games. He also distinguished himself with a silver medal in the 200 meters at the African Championships, making him one of the best sprinters on the continent.

Alobwede’s success continued into 2023, when he won a bronze medal at the Diamond League in Silesia, Poland, in the men’s 100-meter event. He also broke the ten-second barrier over 100 meters, setting a new national record of 9.96 seconds in La Chaux-de-Fonds, and won gold medals at Resisprint International in Switzerland and the Francophonie Games in Kinshasa. Later, he also won a gold medal at the African Games.

In 2024, Alobwede continued to excel, earning gold medals in the 100-meter race at both the Marrakech Diamond League and the Stockholm DN Galan. He also won the Men 60m finals at the ISTAF Indoor Tournament in Berlin, Germany.

He set a record of 10.14 seconds and won the All-African Games Gold medal in the 100m event.

His achievements have solidified his position as Cameroon’s most-awarded sprinter, with numerous gold medals to his name.
