  • Cameroon will host Namibia on September 7 in their first outing of the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON)
  • The game’s venue has been a subject of huge inquest as the country’s football federation and it’s ministry of Sports want varied venues for the game
  • Steven Namalemo, the advanced party for the Namibian delegation arrived Garoua this Monday and moved into Shalom Hotel in Garoua

Steven Namalemo has arrived Cameroon to lay grounds for the coming of the Brave Warriors of Namibia.

According to a post from Nord Actu Namalemo touched down Garoua this Monday, September 2 to check of facilities for the team expected in the Northern city in three days.

Amongst the facilities earmarked for the visits is the Roumde Adja stadium which officials of the National Sports equipment and infrastructures service has classed unavailable to host the September 7 fixture against Cameroon.

Cameroon will face Namibia on September 7 at home but less than five days before the game, there’s a deadlock between the country’s ministry of Sports and physical education and it’s football federation as the institutions prefer different venues for the game.

This match marks the opening round of qualifiers. Historically, both teams are familiar foes, with Cameroon seeking redemption after a 2-1 defeat to Namibia in the 2023 qualifiers. The last encounter at home ended in a 1-1 draw in Yaoundé, featuring goals from Peter Shalulile and Olivier Kemen.

Cameroon faces injury challenges, notably losing Faris Moumbagna to a severe knee injury, while Moumi Ngamaleu is also sidelined.

Despite these setbacks, coach Marc Brys has a strong squad, including Bryan Mbeumo, who recently scored for Brentford, and Andre Onana, who has had a shaky start to the season at Manchester United.

The Indomitable Lions will convene for training starting September 2 either in Yaoundé or Douala.
