Lethal finisher Adrienne Mekuko has revealed her decision to join FC Ebolowa for the upcoming season has been massively influenced by her hunger to achieve success in the upcoming CAF Champions League preliminaries in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.
Securing the signature of Mekuko from last season’s Guinness Super League champions, Lekie Filles has been one of the best businesses for FC Ebolowa.
The finisher has quickly blended into coach Oudou Kpoumie’s squad and relishes the challenge during a conversation with kick442.com.
“We feel good,” Mekuko stated, radiating confidence. She believes the combination of two of the Guinness Super League’s top teams creates a force to be reckoned with. “You have the two best clubs from the Guinness Super League together. I truly believe we are going to do something special.”
Per Mekuko, this isn’t just a new challenge; it’s a mission. After a heartbreaking second-place finish in last year’s tournament, she is back with one goal in mind: winning. “I’m returning to this competition with a sense of revenge,” she said. “We were so close to beating the champions last year.
“Now, with FC Ebolowa, we believe we can go all the way—qualify and even win the African Champions League.”
Mekuko credits the coaching staff for the team’s rapid cohesion, even with some players on national team duty. “The coaching staff has done a great job in a short amount of time,” she noted.
“We have worked together well, and we’ll have time for some final adjustments. We trust the coach, and we believe it’s going to work out.”
The road to victory won’t be easy, as many of their opponents are familiar faces from the domestic league. But Mekuko sees this as an opportunity, not an obstacle. “We know each other, so it’s going to be an intense battle,” she said. With her experience and fierce determination, Adrienne Mekuko is ready to be FC Ebolowa’s secret weapon in their quest for the title.
The 2025 UNIFFAC Women’s CAF Champions League will get underway on September 19 and five clubs are in the group format competition expected to produce the other club from the Central African zone to join and challenge TP Mazembe at the finals of the primary women’s club football tournament on the continent.
