Potential Indomitable Lions of Cameroon defender, Mohammadou Aboubakar Nagida made his first team debut for Stade Rennes first team this Thursday evening as the French Ligue 1 club dispatched Israeli Premier League side Maccabi Haifa 3-0 at the Puakas Arena on match day five of the 2023/24 UEFA Europa League.
Goals from Martin Terrier, Amine Gouiri and substitute Fabian Rieder meant Rennes picked up a comfortable 3-0 victory, their fourth in five outings to remain on top of Group F with 12 points.
The Cameroonian defender who joined the club less than six months ago came on and lasted 28 minutes as the visitors fetched maximum points from a memorable visit to Israel.
18-year-old Nagida remplaced French midfielder Adrien Truffert when his club was two goals to the good and cruising. His entry made him the second Cameroonian player on the pitch, joining center-back Christopher Maurice Wooh who was on all night.
Though the change appeared to be a move to secure who they had already, Rennes scored again to make it 3-0 and ice the cake of a very interesting night Israel.
Nagida who had followed the first team to a number of matches showed glimpses of his brilliance in just about half of an hour on the pitch, completing 18 passes coach Julien Stephane’s team.
The EFBC product has all of his career ahead of him and is in the ideal environment to blossom.
He is expected to play a part this Sunday when Stade Rennes face Olympique Marseille of Regis Mughe Francois with whom he was U-17 international and club colleague for years at EFBC before his own move to Europe.
