Ouagole Jean Richard, the head coach of the Central African Republic U-20 national team has stated his team is in Kinshasa to win the first edition of the 2023 Central Africa Union of Football Federation (UNIFFAC) the trophy.
The trainer made the declaration this Friday during the pre-match conference that was held at the conference hall of the Congolese Football Federation.
The Central Africa side that gets their zonal tournament underway on Saturday with a clash against the Congo Republic has ten players that participated in the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) last month in Egypt.
“Our ambition here is to win with this group. We are going to take it match after match. Remember Congo beat us at home and we played a draw at the AFCON,” coach Ouagole declared.
Central Africa Republic has a talented group of players available for the trainer who hopes to finally win a piece of silverware with this category of the national team.
The competition which was supposed to be on direct knockout basis was subject to a change in format after Cameroon and Chad declined the offer to participate.
“The change is welcomed. It’s something better as now we have the chance to play three games and give more opportunities to our players.”
“Our preparations remain the same as it was for the AFCON in Egypt is the preparations strategy we have to use for this competition, while respecting all opponents.”
Central African Republic get their competition underway against Gabon at 18:30 local time this Saturday, at the Stade de Martyrs in Kinshasa.
Central Africa Republic will face hosts DR Congo in their second game on Tuesday, before climaxing their competition against Gabon next Friday.
All games of the four-nations tournament will be played at the Stade de Martyrs in Kinshasa, DR Congo.
