Newly-promoted Cameroon Elite 2 side Dynamo of Douala defeated city rivals, Caïman of Douala 2-0, to set up an exciting 2023 Cup of Cameroon 16th finals clash against Southwest flag bearers Isle of Hope Sports Academy (ISOHSA) of Limbe.
Second-half goals from Joseph Nanga and Mohamed Sala was enough to cause total excitement for the Dynamo fans at the Bonamoussadi stadium and earn a rare 16th finals spot for the two-time winners for the first time in as many years.
ISOHSA enjoyed a walk over in the 32nd finals after they finished the Southwest Regional preliminaries as Southwest 1. They were supposed to face suspended Lausanne Academy of Yaounde, but their one-year ban from FECAFOOT competitions meant automatic qualification for the Limbe-based side.
It is the second season running that the ambitious Limbe club makes it to the 32nd finals. Last year, ISOHSA held eventual semi-finalist Gazelle FA to a goalless first-half but were eliminated in the 32nd finals.
The clash is expected to be scheduled next week in Buea. It will be the first meeting between ISOHSA and Dynamo in all competitions. A chance for ISOHSA to continue their record run in the competition against the 1979 winners.
Dynamo staged a great comeback in the Elite 2 championship in the just-ended season, winning six games in a row to graduate to the top-flight alongside Victoria United FC of Limbe.
