For the first time since he missed first penalty that led paved way for Cameroon’s elimination at the 2021 African Cup of Nations on home soil, Harold Moukoudi has reacted after keeping silent for a long while following the miss.
Moukoudi failed to covert one of the four post match penalties against Egypt during the Semi final clash that led to Cameroon’s Elimination(1-3) after Lea Siliki and Clinton Njie missed as well.
Speaking to Radio Sport Info, the AEK Anthens defender mentioned why he has been silent since then.
“Complicated moment I’ve had because when you play for your homeland, you want to do your best but unfortunately I missed that penalty at a decisive moment and so I had to think about it some more. It hasn’t been easy to accept it,” Moukoudi said.
With lots of regret for the missed penalty, Moukoudi equally mentioned he has been working hard for a powerful comeback to the Lions Den.
The 25-year-old has been absent from the National for a while under the reign of Rigobert Song Bahanag, missing out on some key competitions for Cameroon like the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the 2023 African Cup of Nations, (AFCON)qualifiers.
“I deserve to return to the national team. My performances lately speaks louder than words. Personally I’m doing my best to get my place back in the National Team. As a footballer, nothing makes u proud than defending the Colours of your nation.”
The central defense man counts 11 caps for Cameroon since his first call up in October 2019.
Having left French side, Saint Etienne in August 2022 for Anthens, Moukoudi counts over 27 appearances plus three goals scored.
As it stands, Moukoudi has just given his side the lead in their Greece Cup clash against PAOK, a goal he scored at the 26’ before the break.
In the days ahead, Rigobert Song Bahanag will have to come up with a provisional squad to face Mexico in an International friendly game. This may be Moukoudi’s chance for a comeback.
