Maylan Mulenga’s goal sealed the title for Green Buffaloes on Sunday as the team retained the Zambian Women’s Super League with a 1-0 win.
It was a photo finish on the final day of the league season for both the Green Buffaloes and Red Arrows.
Red Arrows were leading the log with a point and needed a win against BUSA on the final day of the season to dethrone Green Buffaloes but falter away.
The team played out a 0-0 draw giving Green Buffaloes the leeway to retain the title.
Green Buffaloes grabbed the chance with both hands with a 1-0 win against Queens.
The team with the league title will represent Zambia at the COSAFA (Southern Africa) Zonal Qualifiers for the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League.
It won the Zonal Qualifiers last year, dethroning Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies to qualify for the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League.
Unfortunately, it couldn’t make it out of the group comprising ASFAR FC (Morocco), Simba Queens (Tanzania), and Determine Girls (Liberia) after a third-placed finish with three points.
A return to the Champions League and making it out of the group stage will be the primary target of the Zambians ahead of the Zonal Qualifiers.
