Over one hundred Referees in Cameroon’s men and women’s top-flight and second tier championships were in conclave on Monday, February 27 to discuss issues leading to the recent dip in the performance of some officials and the way out of the current situation.

This meeting convened by the president of the Cameroon referees commission, Stephane Foko was the first of its kind this season.

The Over six hours event which took place at the Hotel Menfis in Ndogbong x-rayed a number of issues with the aim of achieving better results.

Referees have come under huge scrutiny of late as a result of a number of glaring errors committed during Elite Two, Elite One and Guinness Super League championship games.

Even the suspension of four referees last week couldn’t help improve the situation. A few days later, Dynamo of Douala versus Foncha Street FC set social media ablaze again because of some of the strange decisions from the match officials.

The present situation has left many asking what might have gone wrong with the Cameroon Refereeing core that was considered one of the best not too long ago when Alioum Sidi, Elvis Noupoue and Menkouande Evarist were paraded through the streets of the country’s headquarter -Yaounde after their brilliant performances at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt.

The next round of Elite and Guinness Super League games this weekend will illustrate the impact of the Douala ad-hoc meeting.
