Cameroon have won the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations for the first time after beating Malawi 3-0 in a historic final.
The Indomitable Lionesses produced a commanding performance to finally end decades of waiting for their first continental crown.
Cameroon made a fast start and quickly took control of the final, with Marie Gisele Ngah Manga emerging as the difference-maker. The forward struck twice to give the Lionesses a comfortable advantage and put Malawi on the back foot.
Naomi Eto then added a third goal as Cameroon turned their dominance into a decisive lead.
Malawi, appearing in their first WAFCON final, struggled to find a way back into the game. The Scorchers had enjoyed a remarkable tournament, but Cameroon’s experience, intensity and organisation proved too much to overcome.
The result represents a major milestone for Cameroon’s women’s football.
The Lionesses had previously come close to winning the title, reaching the final on several occasions without being able to lift the trophy. Those disappointments are now history.
Under the pressure of a final, Cameroon remained composed and disciplined, protecting their advantage and seeing out the game without allowing Malawi to mount a serious comeback.
The final whistle triggered celebrations as Cameroon players and officials embraced on the pitch, knowing they had secured a piece of history.
For Ngah Manga, her two goals capped a memorable night, while Eto’s contribution completed a convincing victory.
For Malawi, the defeat brought an end to a historic campaign, but their run to the final remains one of the standout stories of the tournament.
For Cameroon, however, this is the moment they have been waiting for.
The Indomitable Lionesses are finally champions of Africa.
