Players of MTN Elite One side Aigle Royal de la Menoua have announced the suspension of all team activities in protest over several months of unpaid salaries and bonuses.

In a handwritten statement dated 9 June 2026, members of the squad said they would cease participating in club activities until their demands are taken into consideration by the club’s hierarchy.

According to the players, they have received salary payments for only one month since the beginning of the 2025/26 season, with January being the sole month paid. They further claim that bonuses have been paid for only two victories this campaign, namely the wins against PWD of Bamenda and Gazelle FA.

The document, signed by more than 20 players, bears the names of several squad members including Tony Achu, Samuel Echabe, Eric Abahine and Ronald Gazhac, highlighting what appears to be a united stand by the playing group.

The situation at Aigle Royal de la Menoua is the latest in a series of financial disputes affecting clubs in Cameroon’s top-flight championship. In recent months, players of Astre de Douala, Union Sportive de Douala and Fortuna de Mfou have also publicly expressed concerns over unpaid wages and match bonuses, raising fresh questions about player welfare and the financial stability of clubs competing in the MTN Elite One.

Aigle Royal de la Menoua have been battling to secure their place in the top division, but the latest developments threaten to overshadow the club’s sporting ambitions as attention shifts to off-field issues.

As of the time of writing, the club’s management has not released an official statement in response to the players’ claims.

The growing number of salary-related disputes across the league is likely to increase pressure on club administrators and football authorities to address the recurring financial challenges facing professional football in Cameroon.
