Cameroon international Steve Regis Mvoue played a decisive role as IK Start secured their first win of the season in the Norwegian Eliteserien, defeating Vålerenga 2-0 on Monday at the Sparebanken Norge Arena.
Promoted to the Norwegian top flight this season, IK Start had endured a difficult start to life in the Eliteserien and were still searching for their maiden victory after ten rounds. Against Vålerenga, however, the Kristiansand-based side finally delivered in front of their home fans.
Jesper Cornelius opened the scoring as early as the 5th minute before Steve Mvoue produced a moment of brilliance to double Start’s advantage later in the first half.
Receiving a long pass from Omar Jebali, the Cameroonian midfielder controlled the ball superbly before lifting a stunning long-range lob over goalkeeper Oscar Hedvall to make it 2-0. The goal capped off an excellent individual display from the former Toulouse player, who dominated midfield with his composure and energy.
Mvoue was substituted in the 65th minute after an impressive performance that earned him one of the highest ratings of the match. The 24-year-old now has two league goals this season and continues to grow in importance for the newly promoted side.
Beyond the personal achievement, the victory could prove to be a turning point for IK Start’s campaign. The three points lift the club away from the bottom of the standings and provide renewed confidence ahead of their upcoming fixture against Fredrikstad FK.
For Steve Mvoue, the performance is another strong statement from a player eager to rediscover his best form and establish himself as one of Cameroon’s rising midfield leaders abroad.
