Unisport Bafang continued their extraordinary return to Cameroon’s top flight with an emphatic 8-0 victory over AS Fortuna on Matchday 17 of the MTN Elite One Championship.

Playing at the Bafang Municipal Stadium, the league leaders delivered another statement performance to strengthen their grip at the top of the standings, moving to 39 points and opening a commanding 12-point lead over second-placed Colombe du Dja.

The hosts set the tone early through Dylan Kouam Mbappe, who opened the scoring in the 15th minute before adding his second from the penalty spot on the hour mark.

After the break, Unisport overwhelmed their opponents with a relentless attacking display. Frederick Koloto Vivien made it 2-0 in the 54th minute, before goals from Tchinda Ghislain (72’), Achille Fokem (73’, 80’), an own goal in the 77th minute and Tang Junior (84’) completed the demolition.

The victory means Unisport have now scored 14 goals without conceding in their last two matches, further underlining their status as the division’s form team.

Coached by Laurent Djam, Unisport’s resurgence has been one of the stories of the season. Back in the MTN Elite One for the first time after earning promotion, the Bafang-based side have defied expectations by emerging as serious title contenders in their first campaign back among the elite.

Since going top on Matchday 7, “Le Flambeau de l’Ouest” have barely looked back, dropping just two points in their last nine matches while combining defensive solidity with attacking efficiency.

Their 32 goals this season make them the league’s top scorers, with an attacking record that has eclipsed the combined tallies of AS Fortuna, Fauve Azur and Aigle du Moungo.

Off the pitch, the excitement surrounding Unisport’s title push is also growing, with the match generating 3,529,000 FCFA in gate receipts at the Bafang Municipal Stadium.

For a club only just back in the top flight, Unisport Bafang are not merely enjoying a good season — they are mounting one of the most remarkable newly promoted campaigns in recent Cameroonian football history.
