In an Aura-less display on the part of the indomitable Lions of Cameroon, they lost to host, Australia by a goal to nil in their first game of the 2026 FIFA series international friendly tournament at the Accor Stadium in Sydney
The boys led by Coach David Pagou initially lighted up the entrance upon arrival at the stadium, setting themselves in the mood to take on the Socceroos of Australia and minutes after the the starting line up were on the pitch alongside their opponent, paying homage to their countries by singing the National Anthem.
The first half began on a quiet note as both teams sized each other up tactically, which eventually saw the first half of the encounter end goalless.
However, the scored half was pronounced than the first as the indomitable tried to get behind the defense Australians, but thanks to their solid and tactical approach to the game, David Pagou’s boys couldn’t find the back of the net as the pressure mounted wasnt threatening to the defense line of the socceroos.
20 minutes into the second half, Olivier Kamdem brought down an Australian player in the box of the Indomitable Lions, which needed the video assistant referee to check and eventually confirmed the act as a penalty for the socceroos, much to the disappointment of David Pagou. However, Cameroon’s first choice goalkeeper, Davis Epassy stood big in between the sticks, perfectly saving the spot kick by Adjin Hrustic, to keep the scoreline goalless, much to the excitement of Epassy’s teammates.
The excitement didn’t last long as in the 85th minutes of play, Jordan Bos pounced in a defense blunder, sloting the ball at the back of the net of a helpless Epassy to ensure that the socceroos where 1-0 up.
One expected that after that, Cameroon would go all out for the equalizer, but the opposite was the case as the boys couldn’t threaten the backline of their opponent, amassing only one shot on target the entire game, with a ball possession percentage of 44 percent.
Cameroon’s next friendly encounter will be against China at the AAMI park stadium in Melbourne on Tuesday next week, a team that defeated CuraCao earlier today by 2 goals to 0 to claim first place of the Group with 3 points, same with Australia but separated by goal difference while Cameroon and CuraCao occupy third and fourth place respectively with no point.
