The home-based Indomitable Lions of Cameroon will take part in two evaluation matches on Monday at the Stade Militaire de Yaoundé as part of an ongoing training camp aimed at assessing local talent.
The matches will see a selection of locally based players will face top flight sides; AS Fortuna at 14:00 local time before another squad takes on Canon Sportif de Yaoundé at 16:00.
The friendlies come at the end of a training camp that began on 6 March, during which around 30 players have been working under the guidance of head coach David Pagou. The camp has been held at the Mundi Sports Complex, where the players have been preparing for a possible call-up to future national team assignments.
Monday’s final training session at the military stadium allowed the technical staff to fine-tune their plans and split the squad into two probable line-ups for the evaluation matches.
Officials say the matches are intended to help the coaching staff assess the form, discipline and tactical understanding of players competing in Cameroon’s domestic leagues.
The fixtures will also give supporters a chance to see the home-based Lions in action, with organisers announcing that entry to the stadium will be free.
For many of the players involved, the evaluation matches represent an opportunity to impress the national selectors and strengthen their chances of breaking into the senior national team setup.
For Arrey Jefta and co this Tuesday’s evaluation could be a telling moment in their careers as the best players from the camp will be retained to join the senior team for friendlies against China and Australia later this month.
