Cameroon secured qualification for the quarter-finals of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2025 after a hard-fought 2–1 victory over South Africa in their Round of 16 encounter.

The Indomitable Lions controlled large periods of the contest and were rewarded in the 34th minute when Junior Tchamadeu opened the scoring with a composed finish following sustained pressure in the South African half. Cameroon carried that advantage into the break before striking again early in the second half.

Just two minutes after the restart, Christian Kofane doubled Cameroon’s lead in the 47th minute. The goal proved decisive once again, mirroring his match-winning impact against Mozambique earlier in the tournament, and underlined his growing importance as a reliable finisher for the Indomitable Lions in crucial moments.

Cameroon claim a 2-1 win over South Africa in the Round of 16.

South Africa remained competitive and created several opportunities, but their wastefulness in front of goal and a string of brilliant saves from Cameroon goalkeeper Dévis Epassy kept the Bafana Bafana at bay. A late strike from Evidence Makgopa in the 88th minute reduced the deficit, but Cameroon’s defence, led by the composed Epassy, held firm to secure the win.

The 2–1 result sees Cameroon progress to the quarter-finals, where they will face Morocco, who earlier in the day defeated Tanzania 1–0. South Africa exit the tournament after a determined performance that promised more but was ultimately undone by missed chances and Epassy’s heroics.
