Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan has admitted the Turkish club cannot afford to sign Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana on a permanent basis, citing financial constraints.
Speaking about the club’s position, Doğan said the cost of securing Onana’s transfer is beyond Trabzonspor’s current means, despite acknowledging the goalkeeper’s quality and experience.
“We cannot afford to buy Onana’s transfer. That amount is beyond our means,” Doğan said. “However, if he wants to stay in the city, we would be happy to continue working with a goalkeeper of his quality.”
The comments appear to cast doubt over Onana’s long-term future at the club, effectively ruling out a permanent deal unless financial conditions change. While Trabzonspor remain open to continuing their relationship with the Cameroon international under alternative terms, a full transfer now looks unlikely.
Onana’s situation is expected to attract attention as the transfer window approaches, with the experienced goalkeeper likely to weigh up his options amid interest elsewhere.
