Cameroon’s 7-a-side football movement is preparing for another major step in its professionalisation, with leading lawyer Barrister Bernard Bassong expected to be appointed head of the legal and homologation department of the Cameroon 7-a-side Football Association (ACF7).

Sources close to the ACF7 say the appointment will be formalised in the coming hours, as the governing body seeks to strengthen its legal framework and boost credibility in one of the country’s fastest-growing sporting disciplines.

If confirmed, the move would signal the association’s determination to reinforce good governance, transparency and institutional discipline within the expanding 7-a-side ecosystem.

A leading expert in Sports and Business Law

Me Bernard Bassong is a respected Cameroonian lawyer and one of the country’s leading experts in Sports and Business Law. Over the years, he has earned a reputation for precision, fairness and a strong ethical stance in managing legal affairs related to sport and enterprise.

He has also become a prominent media voice on issues of sports regulation, integrity and governance, offering sharp legal insight and promoting transparency in public debate. His professional approach and balanced communication style have made him a trusted reference among both administrators and athletes.

“Me Bassong’s arrival will bring legal rigour and credibility to the structure,” a senior ACF7 source told kick442.com. “He combines technical knowledge with a deep passion for fair play.”

Building a stronger legal foundation

The ACF7’s legal and homologation department is responsible for approving competitions, validating licences and ensuring the conformity of disciplinary decisions.

Bassong’s leadership is expected to enhance these procedures, ensuring that the association operates under a solid legal foundation consistent with international best practices in sports management.

Observers say his expertise could help prevent disputes, professionalise contract management and promote a culture of accountability within the sport’s expanding network of clubs and associations.

A growing discipline

7-a-side football, known locally as football à 7, has been gaining momentum in Cameroon, with regional and corporate tournaments drawing increasing participation.

The ACF7’s recent reforms aim to create a more organised and transparent framework for competition and talent development. The expected appointment of Me Bassong is seen as a strategic move to sustain that growth under stronger legal guidance.

If confirmed, his nomination would mark a turning point for the discipline — introducing clearer rules, greater compliance and renewed confidence in the governance of 7-a-side football in Cameroon.
