The Confederation of African football (CAF) has named experienced Cameroonian match official Atezambong Carine Fomo in the crew of match officials for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFON) fixture pitting hosts Morocco against 2018 fourth-place side Morocco.
Carine, who featured in three group stage matches at the ongoing tournament has been picked at the assistant Video Assistant Referee of the contest scheduled this Friday evening in Rabat.
Carine is joined by two compatriots Boubakari Sidiki of the doping control team and Honorine Emerentine Eyong tasked to oversee security affairs in the contest.
The full complement of Referees for the game includes; South Africa’s Akhona Zenith Makalima as Referee, Zambian duo of Diana Chikotesha and Nancy Kasitu as assistant Referees while Natacha Geraldine Konan from Cote D’Ivoire completes the crew as the fourth official.
Houyam Benhammou of Morocco and Zambia’s Gwen Mulundu are the two Media Officers for the game.
The eagerly-anticipated last eight clash promises fireworks though Morocco is considered favourites by many, following their impressive run in the group stage of the competition that saw them being unbeaten and finishing top of their group.
Morocco recorded a 1-0 win against Mali last December but this game will be the first WAFCON-related meeting of the nation since the qualifiers of the 2016 tournament.
The head-to-head record of the two nations is evenly matched as they have picked up two wins apiece and played a draw in the three other seven meetings.
Mali reached the knockouts as one of the best third-placed teams having finished the group stage behind Ghana and South Africa.
This is certainly an interesting contest handed to Makalima and her team of match officials.
The 8pm kickoff on Friday evening in Rabat promises to produce fireworks.
