Referees in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) have secured a 50% increase their wage increase and could possibly be provided air travel tickets for their domestic travels from next season.
The management body NPFL have announced they will institute a 50% wage increase for referees officiating in the league.
Mr Gbenga Elegbeleye, the chairman of the league management body confirmed all previous dues have been paid and the adjustments in the indemnities of match officials amongst other positive moves are underway.
He stated amongst the other indemnities negotiations are ongoing to secure air transportation for referees and players.
He applauded clubs for enabling the payment of referees and staff wages but called on owners to do more while promising more sponsors to enhance the process.
He took advantage of the outing to announced that they have secured a one billion Naira sponsor from a media business outfit and are working on others.
He disclosed that the league ownership for the coming season has been shared as follows, the teams (65%), the league (10%), GTI(5%) and NFF (5%).
