  • Willy Onana has joined Al Hilal Benghazi but will have to wait for the end of the preliminary rounds of the CAF interclub Competitions to be registered
  • The versatile forward has signed up on a two-year contract for an undisclosed fee
  • Al Hilal Benghazi becomes his fourth club in the past four seasons

Former Canon Yaoundé forward, Leandre Willy Essomba Onana has become a player of Al Hilal Benghazi of Libya from August 20, 2024 till June 30, 2026.

Onana only scored four goals for Simba SC last season but his 16 goals campaign for Rayon Sports of Kigali made the former Union Sportif of Douala and Canon Yaoundé man the required addition for Al Hilal.

The switch appears to be somewhat shocking as Wydad Casablanca had held talks with the left-winger and the prospects of joining Rulani Mokwoena’s exciting project in Morocco were growing.

The forward signed a two-year contract with the capital city club on Monday and was unveiled spectacularly on X (former Twitter) on Tuesday with a captivating video clip.

Onana who had a failed move to Qatar this same summer joins Al Hilal from Simba SC, where he was deemed surplus to requirement, especially following the arrival of compatriot Leonel Ateba Christian Mbida.

The 23-year-old is expected to add physically and more direct play in the Hilal front line as he did in his early days at Simba SC and all his time with Rwandan side Rayon Sports of Kigali.

This latest move makes Libya the fourth country in which Onana has been affiliated to a club in the past four seasons as he moved from Cameroon to Rwanda, then Tanzania before arriving Libya.

Al Hilal are preparing for the new campaign during which they will compete in national competitions and the CAF Confederation Cup.
