  • The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) is considering Belgian coach Marc Brys as the potential successor to Georges Finidi for managing the Super Eagles
  • While Brys currently coaches Cameroon, tensions between the Cameroon football federation and the sports ministry may influence his decision
  • Antonio Conceicao, Cameroon’s former tactician, is also being considered by the NFF

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) is actively pursuing Belgian coach Marc Brys to take over as the new manager of the Super Eagles. This move comes after the resignation of Georges Finidi, who struggled to secure wins in Nigeria’s crucial World Cup qualifiers in June.

Finidi’s departure has left the NFF seeking a fresh approach to boost the team’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Despite currently serving as the head coach of Cameroon’s national team, Brys has caught the NFF’s attention. His strained relationship with Cameroon’s FA chief, Samuel Eto’o, may prompt him to consider the Super Eagles’ role.

Brys recently led Cameroon to a win against Cape Verde and a draw in Angola during World Cup qualifiers, demonstrating his coaching expertise.

Brys, a 62-year-old Belgian, has an intriguing history. He began his coaching journey at Berchem Sport, achieving championships in the Belgian fourth and third divisions.

His tenure in Cameroon has been marked by tensions between the football federation and the sports ministry, which could influence his decision. Notably, Antonio Conceicao, Cameroon’s former tactician, is also on the NFF’s radar.

As negotiations continue, it remains uncertain whether Brys will accept the offer. His agent, Ivo Chi, confirms that he currently holds a 29-month contract with the Ministry of Sports. The resolution of internal conflicts in Cameroon may play a pivotal role in Brys’ decision-making process.

Former gaffer Antonio Conceicao is also an option for the NFF.
