The Commander General of the Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service, NHFSS, Dr. Wole Joshua Osatimehin says sports remains a unifying factor in Nigeria.
Osatimehin made this assertion when the FCT Command of the Service played the final of the inter-Area Council football competition at the MKO Stadium, Abuja, on Saturday.
The final was played between the AMAC and Gwagwalada Area Councils, with the latter securing a 2-0 victory.
The DG, who took the ceremonial kickoff, noted that the football games have also given officers of the Service the opportunity to express professionalism.
According to him, the event was the first of its kind. Hence, history has been made in the service.
In his words, “Sports, in general, is a unifying factor. Considering the level of division in the country, sports is the only thing that brings everybody together.
“It will embolden the officers, and it will give them more confidence to be more professional and more tactical so that they can discharge their duty in the area of curbing crimes and criminality.
“Now we have 6 teams in the FCT, 2 are playing the final. They have played a series of matches. This has made the officers fully know themselves from one Area Council to another. So this will give effective collaboration among the officers. And I want to congratulate the initiators.”
Speaking to newsmen earlier, Bar. Victoria Nlemigbo, Commader, Sports, NHQ, said history has been made in the Service, and their are efforts to ensure a robust sport department in the Service across the country.
