The Cameroon football federation (FECAFOOT) have named 17-year-old Wilfried Nathan Doualla, Nchindo John Bosco, Richmond Nji on the list of players eligible for the 2023/24 MTN Elite One championship playoffs after clearing them of allegation of double identity.
The sweeping investigation has led to the suspension of 51 players out of the 63 initially flagged.
FECAFOOT published the playoffs players’ roaster this Monday, March 18, including Victoria United FC duo Nathan and 12-goal forward Richmond plus YOSA skipper Nchindo after their clubs justified their identity.
Yong Sports Academy of Bamenda have players 11 suspended, though Njibero Durell and former PWD midfielder Nchindo were vindicated. Four of five Colombe players initially accused have been suspended. Fovu Club’s roster is now complete, with Pauline Banda, Junior Mbandji, and Cyrille Ngando exonerated, same for Apejes of Mfou who saw corrections for Zacharie Arthur and Tcholefack Igor.
In fact, latest publication has exonerated 12 players, including 2023 AFCON 2023 off-the-pitch star Nathan.
Nathan who had endured torrid time in the past ten days after French tabloid ‘Le Monde’ followed up his inclusion on the temporal FECAFOOT blacklist with a documentary showing the Cameroon international had changed his identity from Alexandre Bardelli Doualla in 2022 to the new identity.
However, this Monday’s list should put an end to the back and forth and the matter, and attention switch to the playoffs which his club has been deprived of some key players for doubtful administrative situations, including captain Ntaka Kylian previously known as Benga Williams Tchuente.
Then final squads have been published, and almost all litigation issues sorted, the seven games playoffs championship is expected to begin on Friday, March 22 in the cities of Douala, Yaounde, Bafoussam, Bafang and Mbouda.
In the top-flight, the title playoffs will be played in Douala while the relegation playoff to determine five clubs to leave the big time will happen in Yaoundé. In Elite Two, the title and promotion playoffs will happen in the West region which will also host the relegation chapter of the championship.
Five top-flight clubs will be relegated to Elite two at the end of the competition while three second tier championship sides will return to their respective regional championships if relegated.
Two clubs will be promoted from the Elite Two championship promotion playoffs.
The winner of this season’s MTN Elite One championship has been promised a financial compensation of $83,000 plus ad ons of the same amount should they get to the group stage of the CAF Interclub competitions.
