The head coach of the Under-17 national team of Cameroon is faced with a new headache after over 60% of the 30 players he selected to represent the country in the upcoming zonal tournament were disqualified by the Magnetic Resonance imaging, MRI test, Sportsvibes.net first revealed.

The routine bone examination conducted by the Federation this Thursday to ascertain the eligibility of the players who had been in camp since Monday revealed that 21 of the players selected by Jean Pierre Fiala are not eligible for the category, thus meaning they have to leave the camp with immediate effect.

Though their disqualification doesn’t directly mean the players are overaged, most often those who fail the test are players who are above stage four of their wrist bones development.

The eliminated players will cost the federation over a million FCFA in payments for the test but the coaches are expected to swiftly react by inviting a new set of players who will pay for their test and take to camp for interpretation by the medical staff.

Most often than not overaged players selected by the coach fail are eliminated from the team.

Since 2020, Cameroon who had two of it’s players thrown out of AFCON 2019 adopted the option of testing before competition to avoid embarrassing situations during tournaments.

The new CAF policy to curb age-cheating have it that if a player or more fail the IRM during the final testing before the Under-17 AFCON, his country is thrown out of the tournament.

Cameroon, reigning Champions of the region will host the 2023 week long UNIFFAC tournament from January 5 in Limbe.

The winner of the tournament and runner-up will represent UNIFFAC at the 2023 U17 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Algeria in April.
