President Samuel Eto’o of the Cameroon football federation (FECAFOOT) has appointed Jean Baptiste Bisseck as replacement for Gabriel Zabo as the new head coach of the Indomitable Lionesses.
The appointment of Bisseck ends the stint of Zabo who appointed coach of the team in July 2021 and guided the Women’s team to a quarter-final finish last year.
Cameroon’s failure to qualify for the 2023 FIFA World Cup because of the below par performance of the team mid last year and eventually failure to make it through the playoffs in New Zealand early this year was perceived as the end of the Zabo era.
Bisseck, a UEFA license holder who masterminded Cotonsport’s 18th domestic championship success less than two months ago gets a first national team for the first time in his career.
Bisseck arrives in the den with huge experience having also worked at coach Canon Yaounde, Akonangi FC of Malabo and Eding Sport de la Lekie where he won the 2018 Cup.
Bisseck will be assisted by current U-20 national team Ndoumou Mike who has done a tremendous job with the Junior Lionesses.
According to the same releases signed the August 18, current APEJES of Mfou goalkeeper trainer Ndongo Fouda Andrienne will replace Andrea Nyamsi as goalkeeper trainer while Ndougsa Engelbert is named fitness coach and Ndongo Christiane Sorelle is the new team doctor.
The new staff will have their first test of their credentials next month when Cameroon face the Harambee Starlets of Kenya in a double-header of the second round qualifiers counting for the Paris 2024 Olympics games.
