The Mediterranean Knights of f Libya have secured qualification for the Mondial later this year in Uzbekistan courtesy of a masterclass performance from substitute keeper Ayad Alwansi who saved two penalties to deny Egypt the win despite Essam Aly Ramadan’s double in regulation time.

Libya came from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw before edging Egypt 4-1 on post-match penalties to claim the bragging rights in the North African derby this Sunday Sunday at the Salle Palais des SPO in Rabat.

Al Nasr forward scored a first-half brace but it wasn’t enough to help Coach Gehad Arafa’s Egypt beat Libya in the third-place playoff game.

Despite moments of brilliance from Libya’s Mohamed Said Khamis, 30-year old Aly took the shine in the first segment, beating Ziyad Azeez twice from range to give the Egyptians a comfortable advantage before the pause.

Libya that hit the woodwork guided by Mahmoud Abd Elwahab was unlucky not to at least pull one back before the interval.

Khamis pounced on a defensive blunder from the Egyptians to half the deficit after the pause.

Mohamed Mohamed went a whisker away from restoring the two-goal cushion but his close range effort just after conceding flew past the Libyan goal.

Unfortunately for the Libya’s, they couldn’t get more as Khamis missed a gilt-edge opportunity to kill three-time champions Egypt in regular time.

However, the job was done by Ayad Alwansi who replaced Ziyad Azeez and saved two penalties to help his nation to a 3-1 win via shootouts to secure the bronze medal and seal Egypt’s disappointing tournament.

Libya will join 2024 Futsal AFCON finalists Angola and Morocco in Uzbekistan in September and October this year.

The exciting indoor tournament will hit crescendo this Sunday evening as hosts Morocco grind ashes with surprise package Angola in anticipation of winning on home soil to draw level with record winners Egypt.
