- Jnr Mukete won the 2024 Southwest Regional League of FECAFOOT with 18 goals this season
- It is the second Best Stars Academy of Limbe player to win the top scorer trophy after Corines Che did last season
Best Stars Academy of Limbe teenage sensation Jnr Mukete has claimed the ‘Golden Boot’ in the 2024 Southwest Region Football championship.
The 16-year-old Best Stars of Limbe forward was crowned the new ‘gold king’ of the Southwest on Saturday at the Molyko Omnisport stadium as part of the closing ceremony of the season and at the end of the final in which he scored his 18th goal of the season.
Mukete who only became a regular at Best Stars this season was head and shoulders above the rest of the strikers in the championship, scoring goals at ease to inspire his club’s drive to the final which they lost 4-2 to Buea United FC.
Mukete’s trophy means Best Stars Academy have produced back-to-back winners of the prize as Che Corines from the same institution won it last year.
Mukete announced his intention to emulate Corines’ feat from the opening day of the championship when he scored seven goals against Manyu FC. He kept his consistency across the season, getting over 50% of Best Stars’ goals for the campaign.
Like Amy other player who achieves such feat in the past, the boy who has spent the best part of his career at the Limbe club will attract interest from across the country if Best Stars decide to transfer him away.
Mukete’s just-ended season is certainly the highlight of the career so far.
