Nouakchott, Mauritania – February 25, 2025 – In a significant milestone for African football, FIFA has officially launched the Mauritania Talent Academy, a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to developing the country’s young football talents. This achievement marks a major breakthrough in Mauritania’s football development journey and sets a shining example for other African nations to follow.

The Mauritania Talent Academy is the first of its kind in the CAF region and is a testament to the country’s pioneering efforts in football development. The academy is part of FIFA’s Talent Development Scheme (TDS), a global initiative aimed at bridging the gap in football development between different regions of the world.

“FIFA is committed to supporting the growth of football in Africa, and the launch of the Mauritania Talent Academy is a significant step in this direction,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino. “This academy will provide young Mauritanian players with the opportunity to develop their skills and reach their full potential, and we are proud to be a part of this journey.”

The Mauritania Talent Academy is designed to provide young players with world-class training facilities, coaching, and education. The academy’s objectives are aligned with those of FIFA’s TDS, which include developing the best players, creating a sustainable football ecosystem, and fostering social and personal growth.

“We are thrilled to launch this academy, which will play a critical role in developing the next generation of Mauritanian footballers,” said Ahmed Yahya, President of the Mauritanian Football Federation. “We are grateful for FIFA’s support and expertise in making this vision a reality.”

The launch of the Mauritania Talent Academy is accompanied by the announcement of a FIFA-funded stadium expansion project. The Cheikha Boidiya stadium, Mauritania’s national football stadium, will undergo an expansion to increase its capacity to 16,000 seats, thanks to a $2.9 million USD grant from FIFA Forward.

“This stadium expansion project is a testament to FIFA’s commitment to supporting the growth of football in Africa,” said Arsène Wenger, FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development. “We are proud to be supporting Mauritania’s football development journey, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact of this academy and stadium expansion on the country’s football ecosystem.”

The Mauritania Talent Academy is a significant milestone in African football development, and its launch marks a major breakthrough in the country’s efforts to develop its young football talents.
