The Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) and MTN Cameroon have officially renewed their partnership with a new two-year agreement. The contract was signed on Thursday December 5 by Fecafoot President Samuel Eto’o and MTN Cameroon General Manager Mitwa N’Gambi at a ceremony held at MTN’s headquarters in Douala.
This renewal marks the continuation of a long-standing relationship between the two entities, which has been a steadfast supporter of local football for over two decades.
The renewed agreement includes sponsorship of the MTN Elite One and Elite Two Championships, the Cameroon Cup, and other special events such as the Ballon d’Or and the Super Cup.
Additionally, the contract covers several key programs aimed at enhancing the football experience in Cameroon. These programs include engaging the new generation of football fans through youth supporter initiatives, fostering supporter loyalty through various loyalty programs, and involving opinion leaders as brand ambassadors to promote the championships and competitions.
Furthermore, there is a project led by Eto’o to build 10 stadiums adapted to the Cameroon environment.
Samuel Eto’o expressed his gratitude for MTN’s continued support, stating, “I would like to say thank you very much for the renewed confidence in the federation and all the players in football. Since 2002, MTN has been in our beautiful house, and with the arrival of our executive, MTN has decided to trust us”.
” Today, we saw this marriage again, and we decided to continue together. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to MTN. And on Saturday, we launch hostilities. And truly may the best win, we as parents have done our job. Now let the children have fun and let the best one get the best grades.”
Eto’o also highlighted his ambitions for the upcoming season, saying,
“Long before me, I saw full stadiums and my dream today is to see crowded stadiums and paid players again. Some are still lagging behind, but I am happy to see certain presidents adhere to this without there being sanctions. This means that we still started from scratch for something”.
” This year, we wanted our championship to be the best on the continent and this could not be done without the support of our usual home. Thank you very much for trusting us and I hope that our teams will live up to this trust.”
While the financial details of the agreement were not disclosed, Eto’o promised to reveal the amount to the president of Elite clubs in Cameroon, Pascal Abunde.
However, club presidents are hoping to receive their share of the sponsorship money, as the federation has not been transparent about it in past seasons.
This partnership renewal comes on the eve of the opening of the MTN Elite One Championship, scheduled for this Saturday in the city of Melong.
