The president of Cameroon football federation (FECAFOOT), Samuel Eto’o Fils has told the fans to rally behind despite their foul start last Monday against Guinea.
The Indomitable Lions played out a 1-1 draw against the Syli national of Guinea. That result which has many Cameroonians disgruntled and venting their anger on coach Song and the team.
However, Eto’o has recommended that the fans pick the positives from the results and remain optimistic while paying attention to past events.
“I understand the frustration of the fans, but the time for the balance sheet will come my dear compatriots.
“What I know is that a competition is not how it starts but how it ends.”
“In the year 2000, I was there. It still feels like two days ago… We started against the hosts Ghana drawing 1-1. History will tell you how we ended. In 2002 and 2008 I was there as well. In 2008, I scored twice in a 4-2 loss against Egypt and we ended up in the final.
“We will have time to evaluate the balance sheet, so keep your emotions in check,” Eto’o concluded.
Rigobert Song’s team needs to be at their best when they face the Teranga Lions in their second group F at the Charles Konan Banny stadium in Yamoussoukro.
Senegal currently lead the group with three points and could seal a place in the next round of the competition with a win while Cameroon will relaunch their competition with a victory before they travel to Bouake for their final group stage game against The Gambia.
