- The experienced right-back has reached a verbal agreement for a one-year deal, pending final negotiations
- His addition is expected to bolster Meizhou Hakka’s defense as they aim to bounce back in China League One following their relegation last season
Cameroon’s Fai Collins is poised for a comeback as he nears a deal with Meizhou Hakka in China. According to 237foot.com, the native of Cameroon’s Northwest Region and the club have reached a verbal agreement for a one-year contract, pending final negotiations.
Initially reluctant due to the club’s relegation to the second tier, Collins reconsidered after Meizhou Hakka’s survival in the Super League following Cangzhou’s administrative demotion. Since parting ways with Radnicki Nis on July 1, 2024, Collins has been without a club, but he is expected to finalize his move to China in the coming days.
Despite his inactivity, Collins remains a favored choice for national team coach Marc, who has consistently included him in international squads. The Belgian coach justified his selection by stating, “He is an invaluable asset to the squad. His strong influence and popularity among teammates make him a key player, even without recent playing time.”
Meizhou Hakka competes in China League One, the second tier of Chinese football. Established in 2013, the club quickly gained recognition and achieved promotion to the Super League in 2021 under Serbian manager Milan Ristić. However, the 2024 season proved challenging, marked by poor form and injuries that led to their relegation.
Currently, Meizhou Hakka sits 15th in the China League One table out of 16 teams, with a record of 6 wins, 9 draws, and 15 losses from 30 matches. Their goal difference reflects defensive struggles, having scored 29 goals while conceding 55.
The PWD of Bamenda prodigy brings a wealth of experience to Meizhou Hakka, having played for several international clubs throughout his career, including Dinamo București, Standard Liège, Al-Tai, and Radnički Niš. If the deal goes through, this will be Collins’ first club in China and his second in Asia after Al-Tai.
