Fadyl Yerima Issa and Yougouda Carlos scored in either half as Cotonsport outclassed their hosts Fovu of Baham by 2-0 in a match day eight fixture of the 2023/24 MTN Elite One championship.
The game at the Bamendzi stadium ended up being a one-way affair as the Cotonites ensured they protect their unbeaten run against Fovu.
Cotonsport’s confidence in the build up to the encounter was improved when Issa scored the opening to set the holders on their way to a third win in a spin.
Issa’s 13th minutes goal was his first of his first season in the first team.
Captain Leonel Ntebeu and his Fovu mate struggled to match the quick movement and hunger of the treble Elite One winners.
Daniel Breard’s man could have scored more even before the break but Junior Mbandji was showed his goalkeeping proweress to ensure it remained 1-0.
Just when Fovu thought they were getting closer to the equalizer, Yougouda caught them off guard as he scored put the game to bed with his first goal of the season.
Patrick Etoga Atchom and his mates at the back for Cotonsport stopped all Fovu incursions to ensure it wasn’t just a win, but one with a clean sheet.
The 2-0 win is Coton’s fourth in seven outings which leaves them second to Stade Renard of Melong that are five points better with their return of 19 points so far.
The 18-time champions have not lost in five consecutive games against Fovu of Baham, a run dating back to 2018.
Cotonsport will face struggling APEJES of Mfou in their next outing while Fovu are up against YOSA in a game that will be very emotional for Ndoumbe Bosso who managed YOSA for years and is in charge of Fovu these days.
