The 30th edition of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope saw athletes from different regions emerge to participate.
The event, which took place on the 21st of February , 2025, in Buea, attracted top athletes from around the ten regions, with 16 athletes disqualified for failing to meet medical checks.
Usheni Hassan from Kumbo in the Northwest region took the top spot in the Senior Male Category, completing the challenging 38-kilometer course in an impressive 4 hours, 40 minutes, and 9 seconds. Hassan’s win earned him a cash prize of 10 million CFA francs. Ali Mohamadou and Abdou Amadou took second and third place, respectively, winning 7 million and 5 million CFA francs.
The Female Senior Category saw Ngalim Lisette from the North West Region come out victorious, crossing the finish line in an impressive time. This marks her third victory in the competition, having previously won in 2014 and 2017. Lisette’s win also earned her a cash prize of 10 million CFA francs. The second and third-place winners in the Female Senior Category took home 7 million and 5 million CFA francs, respectively.
Sarah Etonge, known as the “Queen of the Mountain,” took the top spot in the Female Veteran Category. In an interview, she clearly stated her willingness to continue participating.
The award ceremony was graced with the presence of the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, and the Governor of the Southwest region, Bernard Okalia Bilai, as well as the Paramount Ruler of Buea, Robert Esuka Endeley. With hundreds of supporters who were present to show their support.
