Center-back Joel Bahou scored the lone goal as the ambitious Fauve Azur Elite scraped past Gazelle FA in Garoua this Sunday on match day 16 of the 2022/23 MTN Elite 1 championship.

The center-back converted a sixth minute penalty won on Sunday at the Roumde Adjia stadium after Intermediate Indomitable Lions’ first choice keeper Marcelin Mbahbi fouled in his box.

The hard-fought win the Faya Boys got back into the title race after losing 1-2 to Astres last time out.

Gazelle’s struggles at home were highlighted again upon kick off as the visitors dominated and came close to scoring as early as in the third minute.

Dieudonne Nke’s Fauve Elite was rewarded for their efforts in the sixth minute, after Bahou beat Mbahbi from the spot.

Gazelle FA improved after conceding, but Yougouda Gada and co lacked the precision that had made the difference in previous wins away at Union and Focus of Baham.

Fauve were 1-0 ahead at the break and kept the advantage till the end though Gazelle FA had glaring chances to equalize.

The game finished in favor of the visitors who recorded their 7th win in 14.

A 1-0 win at the Roumde Adjia will calm any nerves in their battle to reach the playoffs.

And, despite an imperfect performance, victory should restore confidence ahead of other crucial games to come for the playoffs aspirants.

Fauve are second on the log with two points separating them from current group B leaders Bamboutos FC ahead of their next game against resurgent AS Fortuna battling for their lives in the division.

Relegation-threatened YAFOOT confronts playoffs-aspiring Gazelle FA in their next outing in the championship which still has all to play for.
