Elecsport of Limbe and Al Jazeera of Muyuka have been eliminated from the 2024 Southwest Regional League of FECAFOOT this following their defeats against Best Stars of Limbe and Fako United respectively this Sunday at the Molyko Omnisport stadium.
Fako United were comfortable 4-1 winners against Al Jazeera while three-times former winners Best Stars Academy stunned favourites Elecsport to secure their spot in the semi-final.
Lead striker Atubeh scored twice set the pace on the day as he converted an early penalty awarded by Atanga William to set Fako United on their way to their first win in their mini interpools debut.
Bright Mondoa and Ndongo got the other goals for the Njorku Boys that only had one consolatory reply from Aljazeera’s William on a day they ran rout against the side that had entered the last eight of the championship as their group winners.
The big win for coach Mbaboh Moses’ Fako United FC was greeted by huge excitement from the home fans who stayed back in their numbers to watch the second game and their next opponents in the competition.
In the second encounter, expected sources, Mukete Junior and Ayuk Cosmos got the goals as coach Djoufack Saturnin’s team squashed the aspirations of Elecsport to secure passage to the next round of the championship.
Mukete’s goal was his 16th this term while young Ayuk Cosmos who was at the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2023 with Cameroon also lived up to his billing.
Wins for Fako United FC and Best Stars Academy of Limbe provides the first pairing in the semi-final of this year’s Southwest Regional League semi-final being the two winners.
The other quarter-final matches scheduled on Tuesday at the Molyko Omnisport stadium between Tiko United FC and Kumba City while Buea United FC in their second consecutive mini interpools appearance will challenge debutants Legend FA of Kumba.
