Avion Academy of Douala has escaped relegation after the National Consiliation Commission of the Cameroon Olympics Chambers annulled the April 24 decision from the FECAFOOT appeals commission denying them three points from a legal battle against UMS of Loum.

The court ruling published this Friday, May 12 declared Avion’s claims valid and allocated them the three points for their complaint against Collins Achet Achi.

Origin of the matter:

On April 7, 2023, Avion Academy won qualification protest against Collins Achet Achi, who was adjudged to have illegally participated in a victory for UMS.

The match day 21 fixture played on April 1 finished 1-0 in favor of UMS, but the Nkengni Felix led commission later sanctioned UMS loses the game by penalty.

Avion Academy were declared winner of the game with three points, without a goal. However, a few weeks later things changed.

On Friday, April 28 kick442.com stumbled on a decision which overturned an initial ruling from the same institution, allocating three points to Avion Academy three weeks earlier.

The body maintained the portion April 5 decision which sanctioned UMS of Loum by deduction of three points, but modified the ruling such that; Avion Academy doesn’t get the three points deducted as stated in article 138 of the competition’s regulations.

This move reduced Avion’s points tally to 19 and dragged them to the bottom of Group A with one game left. Avion beat Aigle Royal to finish the season with 22 points and opened the doors of the Olympic chambers the next working day.

Fast track this busy Friday evening, a higher body has overturned that decision, allocating the three points to Avion to take their season tally to 25 points – which takes them out of the relegation zone and creates a new twist.

Consequences of the three points won by Avion Academy

The three points won by Avion Academy creates far reaching consequences in the championship.

If the decision is applied to the latter, Avion Academy escapes relegation with 25 points while Djiko FC that were initially supposed to take part in the relegation play-off is directly relegated with 23 points while Eding Sport de la Lekie will face YOSA of Bamenda in the relegation play-off on a date to be announced.

UMS’ quest to replace Cotonsport in the playoffs has taken a hit, thus leaving them with the one major option being dragging the matter to higher court in Switzerland, but before that will be done or done with the play-off will be over, especially as the Cameroon court didn’t place an injunction on the competition.

Avion Academy promoted to Elite One five years ago alongside PWD and TKC will continue their stay in the big time.
