Cup of Cameroon champions, Colombe Sportive, continue their stellar run in the MTN Elite One Championship, clinching their fourth victory in six outings with a narrow 1-0 win over Union of Douala.
The encounter at Mbappe Leppe Stadium on Sunday saw a cagey first half, but Duamel Boris Ekotto broke the deadlock on the hour mark. Both sides squandered gilt-edged chances, with the hosts, Union Sportive, now enduring a three-match losing streak.
Earlier, North West Football Outfit, Yong Sport Academy suffered their fourth defeat of the season at the hands of Dynamo of Douala. The visitors dominated proceedings from the get-go, Coach Theodore’s side showed signs of improvement, creating numerous opportunities but lacking the clinical edge to secure their first win of the season.
After a goalless first half, Ulrich Mpeck netted the decisive goal for the home side at a crucial moment, propelling Dynamo of Douala to their second consecutive victory.
Yong Sport fans, visibly frustrated with the club’s performance and management, are calling for experienced reinforcements during the January transfer window. The club has already signed four new players: two central defenders, a midfielder, and a goalkeeper, whose registrations are expected to be completed before their next fixture.
In Yaoundé, reigning champions Victoria United suffered their second defeat, this time at the hands of Fauve Azur. The Faya Boys struck early, with Jean Claude Kameni scoring in the 4th minute and Aloys Fouda doubling the lead in the 13th minute. Wilfried Douala Nathan converted a penalty to provide a consolation goal for the visitors.
AS Fortuna narrowly lost to Stade Renard 1-0. Canon Sportive edged out Panther Sportive with a similar 1-0 scoreline.
Out of the eight matches played on matchday six of the top flight, three ended in stalemates. In Garoua, Astres of Douala secured a point against Cotonsport in a 1-1 draw, while Aigle du Moungo and Gazelle FA also shared the spoils. PWD and Bamboutos of Mbouda played out a goalless draw.
Matchday six was the least prolific, with just 11 goals scored.
