Ghanaian Premier League Champions Kumasi Asante Kotoko have reportedly commenced talks with Charles K Akonnor to take over the vacant coaching job at Kotoko.
The Porcupine Warriors are currently without a head coach after the dismissal Seydou Zerbo. The Burkinabe was fired as the head coach of Kotoko after a painful 2:0 defeat to Medeama Sporting Club last sunday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Abdul Gazale the then assistant of Zerbo is now acting as the interim head coach until a new coach is appointed. The management of the club in search of a new head coach, reports indicate that talks have begun with the former Black Stars coach to return to the club.
CK previously joined Asante Kotoko after the departure of Paa Kwesi Fabin in 2019.
CK spent a year with the Porcupine Warriors between 2018 and 2019. The former Ghana international coached Kotoko to the group stage of the CAF Confideration Cup group Stages.It was the first time in 13 years that Kotoko had advanced to the group stage of a CAF interclub competition.
CK Akonnor’s excellent work at Kotoko earned him a job with the senior national team the BlackStars Of Ghana in 2022. He left Kotoko after refusing to accept the technical director role at the club.
He was also fired as the Black Stars coach in September 2021 after in which only 10 games in charge. Akonor lost four matches, won four matches and drew two. He has since been unemployed as a coach to any club team in Ghana or outside Ghana.
On returning to Kotoko he said; “For me returning to Kotoko will be on a different level. Kotoko was full of joy and though I went trough a lot of pressure it was a positive one” he told Kumasi based Akoma FM.
