Spartak Moscow booked their place in the Russian Cup semi-finals with a 3–2 victory over Lokomotiv Moscow on Wednesday, completing a 6–3 aggregate win over their rivals. Cameroon international Christopher Wooh started once again in central defence, marking his sixth consecutive appearance and delivering another composed performance as Spartak maintained control of the tie.
Lokomotiv began brightly and opened the scoring through Aleksei Batrakov in the 25th minute, briefly raising hopes of a comeback. Spartak stayed calm and levelled just before the break when Manfred Ugalde finished neatly in the 43rd minute, restoring their comfort in the aggregate scoreline.
The visitors took command early in the second half. Marquinhos capped off a well-worked move in the 53rd minute to put Spartak 2–1 ahead on the night and firmly in charge of the tie. Wooh remained solid at the heart of the defence, making several key interventions as Lokomotiv pushed forward in search of a lifeline.
A late penalty converted by Nikolay Komlichenko in the seventh minute of stoppage time reduced the deficit for Lokomotiv, but the goal had no real impact on the outcome. Spartak closed out the remaining seconds with maturity, ensuring there was no opportunity for a dramatic finish.
The performance highlighted once more Wooh’s growing importance at Spartak. Trusted in another high-pressure derby, the 24-year-old demonstrated maturity and consistency that will draw attention from Cameroon’s technical staff ahead of AFCON 2025.
Spartak now move on to the Russian Cup semi-finals, carrying confidence and momentum into the next stage of the competition.
