Debutant Madagascar together with Niger continues to make history at the ongoing 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Algeria.
The two countries confirmed their slots in the semifinals on Saturday a feat they are achieving for the first time.
Koloina Razafidranaivo, Jean Razafindrakoto, and Marcio Ravelomanantsoa scored for Madagascar in a 3-1 victory over Mozambique while the latter’s consolation goal was netted by Isaac Carvalho.
Razafindranaivo is now the joint-leading goal scorer with three goals alongside Algeria’s Aymen Mahious.
Madagascar and Algeria are the only two teams to win all four games played in the competition so far.
Meanwhile, Imarana Seyni and Soumana Hainikoye were the players on target for Niger during their shocking 2-0 win over African giants Ghana.
As Madagascar is playing at CHAN for the first time, Niger is in for the third time having been involved in 2011 and 2020.
Before hitting the semifinals in the 2022 edition, the Nigerien’s best performance was in 2011 when they reached the quarterfinals at the tournament held in Sudan.
Niger will take on hosts Algeria while Madagascar will face Senegal in the semifinals on Tuesday, January 31st, 2023.
