  • Djomo has won the Cup of Cameroon, been promoted and relegated from Elite One in the 2023/24 season

Colombe of Dja’s Cedric Landry Djomo Koupkoua has made history this Sunday afternoon as he becomes the first player to win the Cup of Cameroon, get relegated from the MTN Elite One and secure promotion to the division in the same season.

The 29-year-old sweeper completed the fairytale feat after he helped Colombe of Dja and Lobo achieve a one-nil win against Aigle Royal of Menoua this Sunday afternoon at the Amadou Ahidjo stadium

Djomo featured for his third club in the 2023/24 season as the tight contest decided by Boris Ekotto’s first-half strike.

Djomo who started the season with relegated Apejes of Mfou before switching to Panthere made his Colombe debut against Aigle in Sunday’s final, having joined the Southerners in the build up to the big game.

For starters, Djomo started the 2023/24 season as an Apejes of Mfou player, having joined them in the summer from UMS of Loum. He made 15 appearances for the 2016 cup of Cameroon winners, before joining Panthere on the recommendation of coach Soh Simplice.

He enjoyed a memorable few weeks on the books of Panthere, as he featured in all but one of their playoffs matches as the club finished second to Aigle Royal of Moungo and earned promotion to Elite One.

The former Djiko FC defender left Panthere at the end of the short-term deal to commit with Colombe of Dja and Lobo.

Sunday’s game marked some interesting piece of history for Djomo who squared up against Colombe as a Panthere defender in the 0-1 quarter-final defeat over three months ago and now help them break an over 70 years jinx.

Apejes of Mfou with whom he played throughout the first segment of the season was relegated about four months at the end of the playoffs during which he played for Panthere and won promotion but the peak of it is winning the Cup of Cameroon with Colombe of Dja.

He is expected to stay at Colombe and cement his place in the team as they build up for bigger challenges to come under coach Richard Towa, including the preliminary rounds of the CAF Confederate cup expected to be helped next year.
