  • Canon Yaoundé management have set aside a budget of 350 millions FCFA for the coming season
  • The club management have also revealed they intend to win the MTN Elite One title next season and end a long trophy drought
  • The club will compete in the new format 16-club MTN Elite One championship expected to get underway in October

Legendary Cameroonian club Canon of Yaoundé have set their sights on winning the MTN Elite One championship for the 2024/25 season.

The Mekok Megonda settled for the target during their annual General Assembly meeting which held on Sunday in projection for coming season.

The club management lead by the legendary Placid Mevoua announced during the event that they received nine of the 48 millions FECAFOOT promised them last term as subvention while only one of the expected three millions from gate takings has been handed them. Amidst the financial situation, the Kpakum have settled for a budget of 350 Millions FCFA for the coming season.

The club on a run of 22 years without winning the Cameroon top-flight championship are hoping their current lead trainer, Joseph Atangana can guide them end the long drought.

Canon last domestic title was won by coach Jean Paul Akono and Dieudonne Nke in 2002. Ever since they have struggled to make a mark in the domestic scene, registering multiple near finishes.

The ten-time champions of Cameroon and 12-time winners of the cup of Cameroon are noted for their community following but have played second fiddle since the emergence of more ‘cash splashing clubs’ like Cotonsport of Garoua, UMS of Loum and Victoria United amongst others who have not made life easy in the scramble for quality in the market.

Canon created in 1930 is widely regarded as the foundation of Cameroon club football alongside the likes of TKC of Yaoundé, Union Sportif of Douala, PWD of Bamenda amongst a few others.
