- Toko has scored three goals in three matches at the Japoma Omnisport stadium
- The ground is the most productive in the striker’s international careerÂ
Cameroonian forward Karl Brilliant Toko Ekambi will hope to keep his rich form in front of goal when he walks unto the pitch of the 50 000 capacity Japoma Omnisport stadium this Friday for Cameroon’s opening game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against The Dodos of Mauritius Island.
The experienced forward that counts three goals three previous appearances at the venue will be hoping to get his fourth and become the first player to score in three different games at the venue.
Ekambi who scored his first goal at the venue in the 1-0 win against Côte D’Ivoire during the final game of the 2022 FIFA World qualifiers in November 2021 returned and made the difference at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) the following year.
Toko’s brace against The Gambia during the quarter-final of the 2021 AFCON took his tally at Japoma to three goals which makes him the top scorer in Cameroon’s matches at the venue.
Though Toko failed to score against Algeria in last year’s FIFA World Cup playoff match at the venue, the Douala native remains the most outstanding player at the ground just miles away from his village.
The 31-year-old Saudi Arabia-based forward is in contention to start in the wings or as an out-and-out striker depending on coach Rigobert Song’s approach and choices for the game.
