In his first post-draw interview, Coach Mark Brys of the Indomitable Lions set an electrifying tone for AFCON 2025, outlining a blend of strategy, confidence, as Cameroon faces formidable Group F opponents Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon, and Mozambique.

Coach Brys emphasized the importance of focus and preparedness, stating, “These are good teams. We are our greatest opponent. We need to stay alert and follow our philosophy.” He highlighted the need to stay motivated and united, driven by the fans’ passion and expectations: “We must stay focused, motivated, and united. We are not afraid of anyone.”

The rivalry between Cameroon and Côte d’Ivoire is particularly noteworthy. The two teams last faced each other in the AFCON group stage in 2015, with Côte d’Ivoire narrowly securing a 1-0 victory. This rivalry has been further fueled by recent events involving Ivorian artist Debordo Lekunfa, who was snubbed from remixing a song “Viviane” By Cameroonians Artiste Prince Aime despite his role in making it popular.

Addressing this rivalry, Brys said, “I am aware of the rivalry between both nations. Of course they (Côte d’Ivoire) are cup holders, we are not afraid of them. The priority now is proper preparation. Total concentration, get all necessary information.”

Brys’s tenure as head coach has been impressive, with Cameroon yet to lose a game under his leadership. He has over 10 months to build an AFCON-winning squad, and his commitment to this goal is clear: “I am paid to provide results and that’s what I will do with the squad with the backing of all Cameroonians.”

His immediate challenge is to tackle the world cup qualifiers come March 2025.
