Cameroon’s 400m hurdles specialist Linda Angounou underlined her growing reputation with a dominant double at the Egypt Winter Cup, claiming gold in both the 300m and 600m.
The 24-year-old stopped the clock at 38.43 seconds to win the 300m before returning to take victory in the 600m in 1 minute 34 seconds, performances that highlight her strength, speed endurance and tactical maturity.
A leading figure in Cameroon’s quarter-mile ranks
Angounou has steadily established herself as one of Cameroon’s foremost female track athletes, particularly in the 400m hurdles — one of the most demanding events in athletics, combining sprint speed, rhythm and technical precision over barriers.
In recent seasons, she has represented Cameroon at continental competitions, consistently reaching finals and podium places at regional meets. Her performances have made her a regular feature in the national team and a key part of the country’s ambitions in women’s sprint hurdles.
She has also produced strong flat 400m times, demonstrating versatility that translates effectively into the hurdles event. Coaches often point to her powerful finish and disciplined stride pattern between barriers as hallmarks of her racing style.
Building towards major championships
The 300m and 600m are frequently used as conditioning races for 400m hurdlers, helping to sharpen race pace while improving endurance capacity. Angounou’s commanding victories in Egypt suggest she is laying a solid foundation ahead of the outdoor season.
With major continental and international competitions on the horizon, her early-season form provides encouragement for Cameroon’s athletics programme. If she can translate this momentum into her specialist event, Angounou could be poised for another significant year on the track.
For now, her Egypt Winter Cup double serves as a clear statement of intent — Cameroon’s 400m hurdles star is already up and running in 2026.
