Cameroon’s U17 national team will take on the Central African Republic this Friday, February 20, in matchday two of the UNIFFAC zonal qualifiers.

The young Lions head into the game on the back of a resounding 5-1 victory over Gabon and will be looking to maintain their momentum as they chase a spot at the U17 Africa Cup of Nations.

Coach Saidou Alioum’s side recovered from an early setback against Gabon, with captain Chris Karel leading the charge. The team stayed composed, struck back to equalise, and then dominated the remainder of the match. Goals came from Omar Tsombeng, Arnold Massekon, Stanley Zaotsa, Rony Baliag Nougi, and Moussa Chérif, giving Cameroon a perfect start to the campaign.

Alioum and his staff have been in Kinshasa for four days, fine-tuning tactics and assessing the opposition. The Central African Republic will present a stern test, but the team is confident after their strong opener and aim to keep their hopes alive.

Following Friday’s clash, Cameroon will face Equatorial Guinea six days later before concluding their group campaign against the Democratic Republic of Congo on March 1.

Fans and the wider Cameroonian football community are hoping for a strong showing and a spot at the continental finals.
